What gutters are supposed to do

Gutters carry roof water away from the house. When they sag, clog or leak at the seams, water spills over the fascia and soaks the ground next to the foundation. In North Texas clay soil, that wet-dry cycle near the slab is something to avoid.

A good install starts with getting the slope and downspout placement right, so water reaches the downspouts and is carried away from the house. After hail, check gutters for dents; they’re one of the easiest places to see how big the hail was.

Gutter questions

Can gutter problems cause wood rot?

Yes. Overflowing gutters soak the fascia board behind them, which is one of the most common places we find rot.

Can you fix dents from hail?

Badly dented sections are usually replaced. Dents are also useful evidence of hail size if you’re filing a claim.
