Do I need a permit to repair or replace my roof in Coppell?
Yes, for every roof.
Details: Coppell requires a building permit to repair or replace any roof. For homes it’s permit type Building (Residential), work class Roof, and the fee is $100. If more than 100 square feet of sheathing in total needs replacing, all of the roof sheathing has to be replaced. Re-roofs end with a final building inspection, in person or by remote video, that covers the attic vents and decking as well as a look at the roof from the ground.

Coppell homes
Half of Coppell’s homes were built in 1994 or earlier, and about 71% are single-family detached houses. On an older roof, damaged decking can turn up during tear-off, which is when Coppell’s 100-square-foot sheathing rule comes into play.
Who judges the old roof?
Not the city. Coppell says its inspectors don’t assess the condition of existing roofs; that’s left to your contractor or insurance adjuster. City inspectors check the finished work.
