Allen roofing permits

Allen’s Building & Permitting Division takes residential permit applications through its online Citizen Self-Service portal.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Allen?

Yes, and a signed affidavit before the final.

Details: Allen permits new roofs, roof replacements and roof re-covers. Before the city will approve the final roof inspection, it needs a Final Installation Affidavit on file, swearing the roof went on per the manufacturer’s instructions and that a check of the attic afterward found every fuel-fired appliance vent and other vent intact, venting outside and clear of combustibles.

Storms in Allen

Just after midnight on October 21, 2019, an EF0 tornado touched down in west Allen near Exchange Parkway and Ridgeview Drive. The National Weather Service found shingles pulled off houses along Ridgeview and wood fences and a stone wall blown down before it crossed US-75 into Fairview. Allen also logged 2-inch hail in the April 3, 2014 storms. If no one has looked at your roof since a big wind or hail event, lifted or missing shingles are the first thing to check.
